Women of Schmidt 2017
Celebrating the Women Artists of the Schmidt Artist Lofts
St Paul, MN — This is the second year for this exhibition that features a variety of women artists living and working in the SCHMIDT ARTIST LOFTS in St. Paul, Minnesota. There are twenty-eight Artists, musicians and writers featured in all three galleries, and in at least two Reading events this year. The Landmark and Tunnel Galleries featured in the “Brew House” and the Pig’s Eye Gallery in the “Bottling House” will exhibit over 50 pieces of art. In honor of Women’s History Month, sharing the voices of contemporary women artists who explore their craft in artistic expression. The art on view is distinctly contemporary and varies with a wide range of acrylic and oil on canvas, collage, photography, and mixed media. Writers will focus on a reading event. Subject matter varies from, the abstract, photographic light, design, political concerns, nature, personal philosophy, overcoming life challenges and senses of personal identity. The exhibition and public reception were originally organized as part of the Guerrilla Girls Twin Cities Takeover. Between January and March (2016), where more than thirty arts and cultural organizations in Minneapolis/ St. Paul and surrounding cities joined the collective roar for change.
